Talented 25 year old Italian Womenswear designer, for “the unhuman”, @claudiadanna_, shares her profound and insightful opinions on life, the ability to express herself through design and her thoughts on the world of fashion.
DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE
I like to experiment with new materials or new processing techniques and at the same time I like to mix symbols and shapes that reminds of natural elements. But beyond that, the truth is that when I design a collection I choose a theme that I feel mine for that season. Surely personal style will always be in all the different collections that you can create.
THOUGHTS ON FASHION
For my personal point of view, fashion is just art expressed through the fabric and just like art does, the concept of beauty is constantly changing and that is how fashion changes.
It's not easy to explain. I am inspired by people, by dreams and by the reality of every day. At the same time all I have in my mind is something so indefinite and constantly changing that I can't define the contours.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND DEVELOPMENTS
I began studying art history; then decided to specialise these skills in fashion. Two years ago my beachwear collection “Hydra” won the Italian competition 'Emozioni di Ponza', chaired by the Chamber of Italian Fashion and in the same year I was a finalist of the contest 'Muuse X Vogue Talents Young Vision Award'. Then last year I won a special award for young fashion talents during the fashion week Altaroma Altamoda, with my fall/winter 13-14 collection 'Visions between the end and the beginning'. Then I took part as designer for the exhibition T-shirt Mania during Rome Film Festival 2013. This year I was published on Vogue UK January Issue and Glamour UK February Issue. In July I've presented my first capsule collection “Decay.zip” during Altaroma Altamoda fashion week and then about two weeks ago during Fashion Week Poland in a special section called 'Designer Avenue'.
POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES OF YOUR LIFESTYLE
The best thing is the independence. You create your own routine and you organize your work day by day. Maybe the worst, but tolerable, thing in my job, as in all creative positions, is that when you create it is supposed that you have to spend many hours imagining an unedited reality from your personal point of view, and it requires a lot of mental effort.
Everywhere, I love traveling and discovering new places and people. Certainly, a continent that I would love to have the opportunity to visit is Asia, it is such an inspiration.
UNUSUAL ITEMS YOU OWN
I own a lot of unusual items! I am a nostalgic person and I like to collect old items. I like to think that they were born before me and all the people to whom they belonged have left them a bit of their souls. An old little coffee maker that I brought with me in every house where I lived and it makes the best coffee ever everywhere in the world. An orange 60s television that I call 'Kennedy' (from the brand, you know) and an old exercise book of botany with a lot of plants painted by the ex-owner, unfortunately I don't know his name. The pages are yellowed so I suppose that it has about the same age of my beloved Kennedy, but I've added a lot of illustrations in that book. It's something special.
